ZR MedTech Leads the Way, Shining Globally — PelvEx 2026 in Shanghai, China!
Introduction
On June 27-28, the 2024 International Pelvic Exenteration Congress (2024 PelvEx London) was successfully held. Professor Jian Zhang, Director of the Department of Colorectal Surgery at Shanghai Changzheng Hospital, was invited as a guest speaker at PelvEx London. During the congress, it was officially announced that China won the hosting rights for the 2026 International Pelvic Exenteration Congress. ZR MedTech, as the only Chinese partner, has maintained in-depth cooperation with PelvEx Collaboratives, showcasing China’s global influence in medical technology and innovation.
Grand Opening of 2024 PelvEx London
On June 27, the 2024 International Pelvic Exenteration Congress (2024 PelvEx London) grandly opened at The Royal Institute of Great Britain. The two-day conference included multiple sessions on the importance of combined pelvic organ resection surgery, in-depth discussions on surgical techniques, and sharing sessions, all hosted by experts from different countries.
The 2024 International Pelvic Exenteration Congress is the fifth global conference organized by PelvEx Collaboratives, and the first deep cooperation between ZR MedTech and PelvEx Collaboratives as the only Chinese partner. PelvEx Collaboratives is an international cooperative organization encompassing five continents and more than 140 joint units, aiming to improve the treatment outcomes for patients undergoing combined pelvic organ resection surgery through international cooperation.
The organization systematically collects patient data and treatment methods through inter-institutional cooperation to optimize treatment strategies and provide key information on surgical outcomes and patient survival. Notably, PelvEx Collaboratives makes this key information available to all medical centers worldwide, regardless of size or surgical experience, allowing any hospital with experience in combined pelvic organ resection surgery to participate.
The Chinese Moment!
PelvEx Collaboratives expressed deep respect for the efforts and contributions of the Chinese expert team and C-PelvEx in the field of pelvic surgery. At the Royal Institute of Great Britain, Professor Kirsten Boyle, representative of the PelvEx Collaboratives Presidium, warmly welcomed the China PelvEx team, represented by Professors Jin Gu and Jian Zhang, to officially join the PelvEx Collaboratives.
The conference also focused on postoperative complication management and the development of global multidisciplinary teams (MDT). In the global MDT session, Professor Jian Zhang, Director of the Department of Colorectal Surgery at Shanghai Changzheng Hospital, delivered a speech titled “Standards and Current Status of PE Surgery in China,” reporting on the clinical data and experiences of Chinese surgeons in the field of PE surgery.
In his speech, Professor Jian Zhang detailed the definition, types, and technical details of PE surgery in China, showcasing the systematic experience of the surgical team at Shanghai Changzheng Hospital, refined from numerous clinical cases in the pelvic field, including clinical diagnosis and treatment plans, surgical techniques, postoperative patient management, and long-term clinical outcomes.
Professor Jian Zhang also demonstrated the critical role of the Basement Membrane Graft in PE surgery and its application in pelvic reconstruction, including its effective use in pelvic and abdominal separation and its benefits in postoperative recovery. The Basement Membrane Graft can guide the regeneration of new “pelvic-abdominal tendon-like” tissue, helping to reduce postoperative complications such as infections and adhesions, while lowering the risk of postoperative infection in the pelvic-abdominal region and improving the safety margins of radiotherapy, limiting tumor recurrence to other organs.
Professor Jian Zhang’s speech left a deep impression on overseas experts and scholars in the pelvic field, highlighting the great potential of the Basement Membrane Graft in reducing postoperative complications and promoting functional recovery.
At the 2024 International Pelvic Exenteration Congress, top scholars from around the world gathered at the historic Royal Institute of Great Britain to listen to Professor Jian Zhang’s wonderful speech. Since its establishment in 1799, this famous British scientific hall has welcomed countless scientific giants, such as Einstein and Darwin.
This time, it witnessed history once again, becoming the stage for top Chinese experts in the field of “Everest surgery” — PE surgery — to showcase their outstanding achievements!
